Boffins are looking for loved-up couples to get mashed on mushrooms and LSD to see if it boosts their sex lives.

Imperial College in London, one of the best universities in the world, wants to see if hallucinogenic drugs give romantic pairs more satisfaction in the sack. Its scientists are leading the global charge into the effects of trippy substances on sex, addictions and depression, with many projects headed up by sacked former drugs tsar Professor David Nutt.

They posted an advert on X, formerly Twitter, looking for recruits to take part in the wacky sexperiment. It would involve being quizzed by scientists just before indulging in a psychedelic session.

Imperial College is headed up by the world’s best experts in psychedelic substances. One of its most famous professors is David Nutt, who led the government’s drug strategy until he was fired in 2009 for pointing out that horse riding causes more deaths than MDMA.

He has since led dozens of experiments into the clinical benefits of hallucinogens. The professor boasted: "My claim to fame is I’ve probably given more different kinds of drugs to human beings than anyone alive."
