Girl, 6, plummets to death after being chased off roof by troop of monkeys

A little girl has plummeted to death from a roof of her family home after she was chased off by a troop of monkeys.

Six-year-old Kirti was sitting on a second-floor terrace with her granddad in Sirsi in Karnataka, India, when the group of primates suddenly appeared on the property. Scared, Kirti rushed away but tumbled from the edge of the roof.

A bereaved family member said: “She was chatting with her grandfather Chandra Pal on the house terrace while others were working downstairs. All of a sudden, we heard Kirti screaming for help. Before we could climb upstairs, we heard a loud thud and found her in a pool of blood.”

She was rushed to a nearby hospital but sadly doctors declared her dead on arrival. The victim's dad, Kamal Deep, said: “My daughter panicked and ran towards the stairs in order to escape and fell off the roof. There was nothing we could do as she was grievously injured.”

The heartbroken dad added there had been issues with monkeys and dogs terrorising people in the area for some time, reports The Times of India. This is not the only monkey attack of its kind reported in India in recent weeks.

Last month Gutyappa Bin Rangappa, 66, was mauled to death by a rogue ape on Sunday (November 12) while he was on the toilet, the Daily Star previously reported. The assault took place in his home in Arakere, a village in the same region where Kirti was attacked. Rangappa was reportedly bitten on the hand, causing him to bleed profusely.

The man's loved ones quickly rushed him to hospital for treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries on Monday (November 13). Authorities said the monkey who ravaged Rangappa has since been captured after terrorising the area for several days.

A 10-year-old boy was also killed in Gujarat after he was disembowelled by a troop of langur monkeys while playing with friends. Dipak Thakor was also taken to a local hospital but he was sadly pronounced dead before doctors could see him for treatment.

An official said in a statement: "His intestine was ripped out in the attack. He rushed to his house and was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival."
