  • Israel Palestine conflict news LIVE: US citizens feared to be among the dead

Celebrity mystifier Uri Geller has spoken of his country’s fury against their intelligence services after Hamas militants were able to attack Israel.

The 76-year-old spoon-bender called the breach a ‘colossal, major failure’ in a scathing attack from the Tel Aviv house he refuses to flee.

Geller – who was injured fighting in the 1967 Six-Day War – also told of the horror of seeing his country under threat from ‘the viciousness, the hatred’ of invading forces.

And now, watching and listening bombs exploding in nearby cities as he stands on the roof of his home – he says the attack is ‘Israel’s 9/11’.

More than 600 Israelis are now feared dead and thousands more have been injured following an unprecedented attack by Palestinian terrorists.

Geller told MailOnline: ‘I see this first of all as a colossal, major failure of Israeli intelligence.

‘The terrorists attacked us through the air, through the land and they also tried to penetrate through the sea.

’50 years ago, the Yom Kippur War, we were also taken by surprise.

‘So this is the anger that I see now here and I hear about – how on earth we as one of the most powerful nations in the world with the best intelligence agencies, how come we did not detect many vehicles being prepared.

‘This Hamas move to infiltrate settlements has been planned. It has been planned by many people. It has been planned by for many days, probably many weeks, maybe even many months.

‘So the big question is, the anger is, how come our intelligence did not pick this up?

‘Where were all the Cobra helicopters, the Aperture helicopters, Apaches when these vehicles started – where was the army?

‘People were left stranded there.’

Hamas terrorists fired some 2,500 missiles into Israel from 7am UK time. As they rained down on major towns, and even as far as Tel Aviv nearly 50 miles away, fighters used explosives to break through the border fence.

Convoys of motorcycles and pick-up trucks then sped into Israel while other terrorists reportedly jumped into heavily armed speedboats to storm naval defences.

As Hamas’ fighters swarmed into the country they targeted civilians, with young Israelis at an open-air music concert in the desert among the first to be hit. Footage showed the revellers desperately clambering into cars to try to flee the invaders in Be’er Sheva.

As the day unfolded, men were seen fighting brutal close-quarters gun battles in towns, with bodies – including civilians – soon piling up on the streets as the deadliest attack the country has endured for years unfolded.

Geller continued: ‘Children were murdered. Babies were murdered. Elderly were murdered.

We’re calling it the 9/11 of Israel.

‘When I see these horrifying videos coming in from terrorists murdering children and old women – it’s just gut wrenching.

‘Of course we will win this war but it still hits you spiritually, emotionally, physically when you see these things happening around you.

‘I stand on my roof and I look left – I can see cities that are being hit by rocket fire. I can hear bombs exploding.

‘When the sirens go we go to what we call our shelter – it’s basically under a staircase. It’s just like a movie. You’re living a real war film.

‘You’re sitting under a staircase, you hear the sirens wailing outside… and then you hear the bangs.’

The militants killed hundreds of Israelis in clashes through the day, and escaped back into Gaza with at least dozens of hostages, including women, children, and disabled elderly Israelis.

And the world-famous mystic has been left horrified by the cruel violence so close to home.

He says he has the news on throughout the day – and the missile warning app on his phone is triggered every few seconds as deadly projectiles are pumped towards the Jewish cities.

He added: ‘They were murdered. You can see them just being slaughtered.

‘Children were kidnapped, babies were kidnapped, old women were kidnapped, young men were kidnapped – so you can imagine what that does to the psyche of Israelis.

‘It’s just unbelievable – the viciousness, the hatred.

‘Never, ever will I leave my people in such a situation. Never, ever.

‘I’ve heard of people who want to get out of Israel – but not me.’
