Sir Alex Ferguson and Dame Judi Dench strike up unlikely partnership that sees them win thousands with racehorse | The Sun

SIR Alex Ferguson and Dame Judi Dench have struck up unlikely partnership.

And the A-list duo are making it pay by netting thousands with their star racehorse.

Racing fans know the former Manchester United boss and James Bond actor are mad keen on their thoroughbreds.

But they have now joined forces along with multi-millionaire businessman Ged Mason and the family of legendary late owner Andy Stewart with the horse Outlaw Peter.

The seven-year-old gelding is trained by Paul Nicholls and started this season with a bang with an easy victory at Newton Abbot on Friday.

Sent off the short 1-4 fav, Outlaw Peter coped well with the bottomless ground to score by about a length in a match race.

The Class 3 novice chase wasn't the strongest race on the day.

But the £7,000 first-place prize was not to be sniffed at and the horse has now taken his career earnings to more than £66,000.

But Mason and Fergie came on board in November of that year and have seen him win five times since then.

Nicholls suggested after this most recent triumph the novice could go to Cheltenham for their Showcase meeting at the end of October.

And who knows what lies in store after that?

If he can boost his mark a bit with some more wins then he could well be a Festival runner in the Plate or Ultima.

Fergie had an interestingly-named runner in his very own red silks earlier this month.

Given the name Hampden Park, the Old Trafford legend said it was after the ground with the best atmosphere.

Yet to win in two, Hampden Park is a three-year-old colt trained by Sun Racing columnist Andrew Balding.
