Gorka Marquez breaks silence on Strictly future ‘It’s not my decision’

Gorka Marquez addresses his reaction to losing Strictly

Gorka Marquez addressed his future on the BBC show and admitted “it’s not my decision” whether he gets to remain a part of the lineup.

The Strictly Come Dancing star took part in a candid, “Ask Me Anything” Q&A with his 915,000 followers and was quizzed about his show appearance.

A social media user asked: “Are you returning to Strictly Come Dancing next year as a professional dancer Gorka?”

“I get asked this a lot!” he replied. “I hope so, it’s not my decision but I would love to.”

Gorka added: “It’s the best show on TV and I’m grateful to have the chance to be a small part in it.”

Gorka was the subject of Strictly exit rumours when the pro-dancer made it to the final with Countryfile presenter Helen Skelton.

But despite their best efforts in the grand final, it wasn’t meant to be with the title going to Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal.

His future on the show hung in the balance as the Spanish-born dancer addressed the claims in his reality series alongside his fiancee Gemma Atkinson.

Speaking in the third and final episode of Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens, he spoke about the difficult decision he had to make as rehearsals for Strictly started just after his second child, son Thiago, was born.

“It’s quite heart-breaking, you know, to have to leave again a few days after Gemma gives birth and not be at home,” he said on the W Channel show. The dad-of-two added: “In my head, it makes me think I want to quit and just be at home for the next three months, but at the same time, I need to do my job and work.”

Meanwhile, he also dished on who he wanted to see win Strictly during the 2023 series after Gorka and his partner Nikita Kanda were the second couple to be eliminated from the competition.

When quizzed about who he wanted to see lift the Glitterball trophy, he replied: “Any of them. I think the three couples deserved it in their own way…

“But beyond dance the three are amazing people so I was happy with the outcome.”

Gorka added: “The only real winner is DANCE and the amazing final we all witness that night.”

Soap actor Ellie Leach was crowned the Strictly winner beating Bobby Brazier and Layton Williams to lift the coveted trophy.
